Rare Games and Microsoft’s Sea of Thieves achieved amazing success since its launch, surpassing 5 million players and more than 40 million hours of streaming on Twitch and over 300 million views in YouTube videos. The recent surge in numbers and new players is mainly due to the studio’s continuous support to the game with content updates, the latest being Cursed Sails, adding tons of skeleton-pirate themed content to the game. What makes all this more enjoyable is Rare’s commitment to never charge their players for new content updates.

Developer Eidos Montreal and publisher Square Enix’s upcoming entry in the Tomb Raider franchise, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, looks to be one of the best and most innovative instalments. According to Game Director Daniel Chayer-Bisson, it is the “the most difficult Tomb Raider of all the Tomb Raiders” as well. Earlier this month, the title received a new trailer, showcasing the new tombs players will explore and all the new obstacles, puzzles and enemies they’ll face.

The focus for today’s Doom Eternal reveal was squarely on the campaign, but the previous game bolstered that with SnapMap – a set of level creation tools that let you build levels out of prefab parts. The feature wasn’t as deep as it could have been, though it did allow for some fun creations. But id has decided to cut SnapMap this time around and focus on more substantial helpings of extra content.
There was a lot to absorb in today’s Doom Eternal gameplay presentation, and one little detail nearly slipped under the radar – extra lives. We see the Slayer grab a 1-up during the course of the action, but didn’t get any info about how that works in-game. So we had to find out – and we did just that in a Q&A session after the QuakeCon keynote.
Bethesda has continued to expand its first-party development offerings over the past few years, and that now includes Bethesda Game Studios Dallas. That will be the new name of Escalation Studios, which has previously supported Bethesda across a variety of past – and future – titles.
Not content to let Doom Eternal steal its thunder, Elder Scrolls Online had some new details to show at QuakeCon. We’ve got a full trailer for the next DLC expansion Wolfhunter, a quick glimpse at the Murkmire add-on, and a boost for regular subscribers of the ESO Plus program promising more generous rewards.
It’s everybody’s favourite pre-release pastime – it’s time for Doom Eternal screenshots. Yes, we just got an extensive look at gameplay through some lengthy videos, but that’s all so blurry and marred by streaming artifacts. We want crispness. We want the trues of art forms – still images. Check them out in full glory below.
