Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the upcoming entry to Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise, visits the Roman era and will feature a female and male character options for those interested. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s Creative Director Jonathan Dumont held a Reddit AMA, via DualShockers. yesterday, and was very welcoming and answered almost all types of questions.
First off was Dumont’s comments regarding how romance options will almost affect your playthrough just as much as your dialogue options, with players allowed to jump in and out of relationships at any time.
There will be many different opportunities for romancing characters throughout your journey, which you can opt out of at any time. Romancing plays just as much of a part in the choices during your odyssey as other decisions.
Since we’re on the topic of player decisions, he discussed how dialogue choice will steer the game towards a certain ending, going further to even mention finishing certain quests will affect your ending as well.
Yes [player decisions will affect the ending]. As for how dialogue choice will impact the game’s endings, we don’t want to give too much away, players will experience that for themselves. But your actions and choices will leave to different endings. True for other quests too!
The Assassin’s Creed franchise is mostly known for its historical accuracy and how much the team behind every entry did their research to portray each era in the correct manner. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s team visited Greece and several other locations to deliver an authentic experience to players.
We visited Greece to see the country first-hand, understand the topography and get a feel for the culture. We studied up on archaeological research and read ancient and contemporary authors of the classical period. We also hired on a historical specialist of Ancient Greece, Stephanie-Anne Ruatta, who has been instrumental in helping us recreate Ancient Greece and who we run our decisions past to make sure they are as historically accurate as possible.
Unlike Black Flag, Odyssey will feature a “more accessible and arcade approach” to its naval combat.
Ships and naval have a strong place in our game, but they’re less the core element of the experience than in Black Flag. Gameplay is also different from BF as we have a more accessible and arcade approach, focusing on the immediate fun. We are true to the era, so no cannon but we have arrows, javelins and more emphasis on cleaving and ramming. Nothing better than cleave a ship in half to see her crew devoured by sharks! But of course there is also a progression and recruitable crew for players that want to go deeper.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey releases on October 5 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
