Today finally brought news of exactly how Fallout 76 PvP is going to work. Other players will be able to kill you even if you don’t want to get into a fight, but they’ll suffer some harsh punishments if they do. It seems Bethesda wants to split the difference between true penalties and allowing players the freedom to play how they want.
One of the most controversial additions Fallout 76 is making to the series is player-controlled nuclear weapons. You’ll be able to use these to strike other players’ settlements, leveling their structures and irradiating the area. But what if you’re on the receiving end of a nuke? Turns out, your painstaking work building the most beautiful base in West Virginia hasn’t all gone to waste: you’ll be able to rebuild your structures using Fallout 76’s blueprint system.
Fallout 76 is making the jump to online multiplayer, and the series’ SPECIAL system for character development is getting some changes. Each attribute – Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck – can be boosted by a point every time you gain a level, as in older Fallout games. But in Fallout 76, there’s no level cap – you just won’t get new SPECIAL points once you hit level 50.
Today, the folks at Bethesda provided a more extensive look at the details of Fallout 76, including character creation. Defining your character’s look is based on the Fallout 4 system, though Todd Howard says it’s “even better” – and your customization options don’t end once you step out of the vault.
