When it comes to games as of a service title, there’s usually a bigger focus in getting players to playing either by picking up additional expansions or other microtransactions. The latter can be quite controversial with aspects such as loot boxes becoming a topic as of this generation. For instance, some can easily argue that these loot boxes can be very much like gambling with players spending money in hopes to acquire a specific item. Anthem is one of the latest video game titles released within this new genre market and it’s certainly has a few faults which we covered in our Before You Buy upload. However, one aspect that may have gamers a bit frustrated is the drop rate adjustment and it could potentially leave some gamers already tapping out.
Anthem is a new video game release and with any big title, there are bound to be a few new tweaks that needed to be made. However, one unexpected change most gamers may have found to be unwarranted is the drop rate adjustment that’s making it harder to find some of that precious loot you’re hunting for. Luckily, Anthem doesn’t have loot boxes for players to go after which is a plus as we’ve heard some pretty horrible reports of gamers quickly becoming addicted to spending an outrageous amount of money in a gamble of getting a particular desired skin or gear piece.
In our Friday changes, one of the edits we made had the side effect of increasing certain drop chances. This was not intended. Once we identified the problem we changed it back to how it was before. That was about 11 hours later.
With that said, you will find that some of the rare loot you may have been farming for will become just a bit harder. In a recent Reddit comment by lead producer Ben Irving, BioWare had to make a tweak to the drop rate when the game launched. During the launch the drop rate was increased to a level they didn’t originally intend and when it was spotted the developers made the fix. This apparently wasn’t very long into the launch day before it was realized and fixed, but it’s regardless a tweak that will make finding some gear harder.
Gamers can pick up Anthem right now on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms. Again, if you’d like to hear our thoughts on the game such as what we thought was good, bad along with a few personal opinions then take a look at the Before You Buy video upload above.
