With the closure of Call of Duty: WWII Open Beta weekend, we’ve had a glimpse of how the game will perform on PC master race, and it seems that it’s made a huge improvement from last year’s futuristic look at the Call of Duty franchise across the board. So much so that statistically speaking, the Call of Duty: WWII beta had 5X more player than Infinite Warfare last year.
Over the weekend, Call of Duty: WWII hit a peak of 65k concurrent players a 460% increase in players when compared to Infinite Warfare’s launch weekend peak of 15k players. WWII’s beta also topped the much more well-received, Black Ops III, and its peak of 63k players back in 2015.
This is pretty significant, firstly because it seems people are far more hyped for the ‘return to roots’ that this iteration of call of duty is following, and secondly that the Open Beta has massive competition on Steam from the likes of Dota 2, CS:GO and PUBG.
with the beta coming to an end, there’s no real telling of whether these numbers will stick, increase or decline – LawBreakers, for example, has had the best numbers during its open beta, but now struggles to hit even 300 concurrent players, granted Call of Duty is a massive franchise, but that’s not to say that its competitors won’t sap the player base.
