AMD’s Radeon VII outdated already as TSMC sets 7nm EUV rollout for March

TSMC is looking to take its 7nm EUV process node on the road in March. The company’s current 7nm process recently made its gaming debut with the Radeon VII, the “world’s first 7nm gaming GPU” from AMD, showing off what a difference a process node can make. Forget overclocking, an MIT AI is bending diamonds to make our CPUs faster

Flexing a semiconductor can actually improve its performance, and researchers at MIT, and in Russia and Singapore, are letting AI run wild on their chips to figure out the perfect blend of bend. But it’s not just silicon chips the team see one day benefiting from the research – diamond’s unique properties also make it a good candidate for the flexy chips of the future. read more

AMD dismisses Nvidia’s DLSS for its “image artefacts” and “harsh scaling”

Around the launch of the AMD Radeon VII there was a bit of talk, and a lot of confusion, about the red team’s GPUs being capable of matching Nvidia’s DLSS technology. But in a pre-launch briefing AMD representatives dismissed the effectiveness of the GeForce-only post-processing effect, suggesting non-proprietary SMAA and TAA could “offer superior combinations of image quality and performance.” read more
