After years worth of teases, it seems that Gearbox will finally unveil Borderlands 3 later this month. Of course, we’ve been through this many, many times before – but it has to be real this time, right? I guess the only thing that’s certain is that we’re closer to a Borderlands 3 release date than we ever have been before.
Gearbox tweeted out an image of a road sign today, done up in the cartoony style of Borderlands. It points to something happening March 28 in Boston, MA – the same date and location which will host the studio’s main theatre show at PAX East. Additionally, the corner of the image lists exit number ‘3.’ (You know, “three” – as in a third Borderlands game.)
The PAX schedule listing for that event promises “never-before-seen reveals, exclusives, and surprises,” and a couple of weeks ago plenty of fans took that as a hint for a Borderlands 3 reveal. Now that we’ve got this tweet, maybe we can finally count on it. Or it could just be the cruel twist of that Borderlands remaster.
Some fans have been awaiting a Borderlands 3 announcement since the launch of the second game, and Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has been teasing that possibility for nearly as long.
As of PAX West last year, Pitchford said that 90% of the studio is “working on the thing I think most of you guys want us to be working on.”

We’ll find out for sure what’s happening when PAX East comes around later this month. Hopefully we’ll be feeling joy rather than drinking the bitter tears of further disappointment.
