Leon and Claire return to their low-poly glory in free Resident Evil 2 DLC

Well, that didn’t take long. Earlier today, we wrote that Resident Evil 2’s developers were “discussing the possibility” of post-launch DLC. Shortly after that, Capcom’s launch event stream for the game confirmed two pieces of free DLC will become available after the game releases later this week.

The first piece of DLC is the ‘98 Classic’ costume set for protagonists Leon and Claire. The costumes will return the characters to their former low-poly glory, making Leon in particular appear more Action Man than action hero. The costumes will initially only be available in Japan as an attachment to promotional items, but will be made free for everyone from March 22.

The second piece of DLC mentioned on the stream is a new game mode. Titled The Ghost Survivors, a resetera thread documenting its reveal claims that the mode will allow you to play as multiple characters, and may feature some rogue-like elements, perhaps similar to Prey’s recent Mooncrash DLC. It’ll be released in three volumes and will also be available for free, although there’s no word on a release date.

The Resident Evil 2 one-shot demo arrived last week, and while plenty of people tried it out, not many were able to cope with all those zombies. Just 26% of the 2.4 million players managed to complete the demo within the 30 minute timeframe, but hopefully they have a bit more success in the full game.

Whether these announcements are all we’re going to get isn’t clear. The Ghost Survivors in particular sounds like it might be pretty fleshed out, but those discussions I mentioned above sounded like they might offer something by way of extra story content. That’s just speculation though, so we’ll have to wait and see.
