‘Metal Gear Survive’ Forces You To Pay $10 For An Additional Save Slot

Konami’s new co-op survival game Metal Gear Survive is catching heat for an expensive microtransaction.

Each new character you create in the game comes with a cost of $10 if you don’t want to delete your first one. Basically, if you want to keep your existing character, you’ll need to create a new save slot. Metal Gear Survive charges 1,000 Survival coins for each additional save slot and a pack of 1,150 coins can be purchased for $9.99.

With publishers increasingly testing the waters to see what sort of microtransactions they can get away with in games, Metal Gear Survive’s $10 save slot feels especially egregious. Then again, with Konami’s reputation at an all-time low following the turmoil surrounding Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima’s departure in 2015, it’s hard to say whether or not anyone cares enough about Metal Gear Survive to be upset by this.

Metal Gear Survive was released this week for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. If you’re playing the game, let us know in the comments what you think of it so far and if you think this $10 save slot is an issue or not.
