Niantic have unveiled their next Pokemon Go event, and if you’ve been desperately trying to save up those Magikarp candies to finally get a Gyrados, you’re in luck!
Starting Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 P.M. (Pacific Time), there will be an increase in the spawns of water Pokemon. Niantic officially mentioned Magikarp, Squirtle, and Totodile (and their evolutions), but you can probably expect an increase in the more common water Pokemon too, like Poliwag, Goldeen, and Krabby. The one notable surprise is that Niantic’s blog post also mentioned that Lapras, typically seen as an Ice Type Pokemon (not water), will enjoy a brief increased spawn rate. While most trainers have probably caught or hatched at least one by now, they are still a rare find.
The event will run for one week, and also includes a new wardrobe item — a Magikarp hat for your character.
Of course, it’s not free though — get ready to fork over some Pokecoins if you want it. We lied. It’s totally free and it’s awesome!
Niantic also announced on Tuesday that they had updated the game to ensure that trainers who make it to their seven-day Pokestop streak are now guaranteed to have at least one random evolution item drop. The items needed to evolve several Generation 2 Pokemon have been extremely rare since the new Pokemon were added to the game, with only about a 1-in-3000 chance of getting one at every Pokestop spin.
