Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey are both terrific games, but they both dropped a lot of the features that had defined the series in favour of an approach befitting bigger RPG games. As one example: assassination. One-hit kills are returning alongside the hidden blade in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and the game’s lead dev says this is part of an effort to bring the old and new AC formats together.

After our cinematic first look at Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Ubisoft has provided our first look at gameplay – or, rather, in-game cinematic footage at this year’s Inside Xbox online showcase. The clip doesn’t show us much in terms of what the game will play like, but it sure looks nice – and there’s plenty more of the upcoming Viking epic to eyeball.
We’ll get our very first look at some Assassin’s Creed Valhalla gameplay later today (May 7) when the Inside Xbox start time rolls around. But, it looks like there won’t be a meaty gameplay demo on offer to have a good peek at – instead, it’ll be a “teaser trailer” and a “first taste – something to tease your appetites”.

Ubisoft is live teasing a new Assassin’s Creed setting on YouTube right now, via an art demonstration with artist Kode ‘BossLogic’ Abdo. It’s only that – a teaser – for now, so we don’t know exactly what it’s pointing to just yet, but it’s fascinating to watch, with a new setting being put together piece-by-piece by the artist right in front of our eyes.
