On one level, Crusader Kings has always been about running the European middle ages like a daytime soap opera, letting you plot evil schemes and pursue romantic targets all across the continent and beyond. Crusader Kings III is leaning into this aspect of the game with its revamped lifestyle system, which is adding some hefty new roleplaying elements to the series.
Paradox Interactive is keeping fans up to date on the development of Crusader Kings III by periodically publishing interviews with the team creating the next big medieval dynasty simulator. The latest, posted Friday, touches on a host of key features and changes to the formula, including a brand new 3D portrait and DNA system, new mechanics for ruler’s councils, and of course, cunning plans.
Crusader Kings III will feature wandering characters who will roam across the world according to their own agendas, stirring up more of the Medieval drama for which the series has become so known. They may show up at your court looking for employment, or perhaps even your help to press an enticing claim.
Crusader Kings 3 is going to offer an expanded lifestyle system, which will give your rulers five different lifestyles to choose from, and three different skill trees within each lifestyle. Those skill trees will all offer RPG-style perks with specific benefits and new abilities, as we learned at the Crusader Kings 3 reveal. The highest-level perks offer some especially impressive benefits. For example, seduction masters can suppress their own sexual preferences for the good (or bad) of the kingdom.
