Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary PC test flights have been going on for several weeks, and a series of teasers suggests we’re going to get more concrete news on the release soon. 343 Studios has released a new teaser trailer, and a Windows Store page listing briefly went up early.

Halo: Combat Evolved, the first title in the long-running series, is the next part of Halo: The Masterchief Collection on the way. It’s due to hit PCs later this year, but developer 343 Industries has got some testing for players to get stuck into first – the first ‘test flight’ for Combat Evolved has launched.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection has been getting modded since day one – and even before that – and developer 343 Industries has plans to support the mod community. A recent blog post goes into detail about the studio’s upcoming plans for mod support, and that includes tools for the Steam Workshop.
Now that Halo: The Master Chief Collection has come to PC with the launch of Halo Reach, it looks like the game’s modding scene is in full swing already. Some pretty mighty MCC mods have appeared less than a week after the game’s launch, including one that thoroughly reworks Reach’s Campaign and Firefight modes.

It’s been a long time since the announcement by Microsoft that the Halo Master Chief Collection would be coming to PC, starting with Halo Reach – but there have at least been periodic ‘flighting’ beta tests to ease the wait for a few fans. With the most recent Xbox One flight test for Halo Reach out of the way, developer 343 Industries is planning for its next PC test – which may be the biggest of them all.

The next Halo: The Master Chief Collection PC flight – that’s a fancy name for a beta, if you haven’t been keeping up – was set to cover Firefight mode, and it was set to begin in July. At the time, the developers noted that the timing could shift, and obviously it did. The developers say that this is due to some “severe blocking bugs,” but they’re as committed as ever to making sure MCC is the best it can be on PC.
