Target Leaks Details For ‘Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor’ Sequel

UPDATE: Following a retailer leak over the weekend, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has today officially confirmed that Middle-earth: Shadow of War, the sequel to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, will be out Aug. 22 on Xbox One, Windows 10 PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 4 Pro. In an interesting twist, WB also notes that it will be available on Xbox Scorpio, which of course is not out yet.

Shadow of War will bring back Talion and Celebrimbor, who will once again go behind enemy lines to turn Mordor against the Dark Lord Saurson. New additions to the game include an expanded Nemesis System, which will introduce new stories of loyalty, betrayal, and revenge, according to WB’s press release.

The Nemesis System will apply to the entire game world this time around, with environments and characters shaped by the player’s actions and decisions. The game will also introduce Nemesis Fortresses, which allow players to utilize different strategies to conquer dynamic strongholds and create personalized worlds with their unique Orc army.

“Monolith Productions continues to innovate by introducing deeper, more personalized gameplay experiences, coupled with authentic storytelling,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, in a prepared statement. “Middle-earth: Shadow of War truly drives the genre forward by taking the Nemesis System to new heights and allowing players to create their own personal journey within Middle-earth.”

Original Story:

It looks like a sequel to 2014’s surprisingly great Lord of the Rings game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is not only in development, it’s coming out later this year!

This news comes by way of a premature listing spotted on US retailer Target’s website by NeoGAF, which lists the sequel’s title as Middle-earth: Shadow of War, along with a release date of August 22. Although the listing has since been removed, it revealed that Shadow of War would bring back the original game’s Nemesis System and would again be developed by Monolith Productions.

Kotaku is also reporting that Shadow of War will continue the story Talion and Celebrimbor from the first game and the pail are now working on forging their own Ring of Power to take on Sauron.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which produces the franchise, has yet to issue a response to the leak.
