It looks like we won’t have to wait much longer for the original Halo to return to PC. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary PC test flights have been going on for several weeks, and a series of teasers suggests we’re going to get more concrete news on the release soon. 343 Studios has released a new teaser trailer, and a Windows Store page listing briefly went up early.
The trailer, titled ‘Unseal the Hushed Casket,’ runs through the conversation between Cortana and Captain Keyes from the opening of the original game. We see a load of flyovers of stasis pods including, of course, the one where Master Chief is sleeping. The trailer closes as Chief is awakened, and the Halo CE logo lights up next to Halo Reach.
A Windows Store page for Halo CE also went live earlier today, as TrueAchievements spotted – though it looks like that page has since been removed. It originally featured a number of new screenshots for the port, and a (broken) link to pre-load the game.
Taken together, it seems clear that the original classic will launch for the PC Master Chief Collection very soon – don’t expect an official release date announcement to take much longer.
Halo was essential to the rise of console FPS games, and while the original appeared on PC ages ago, a fresh port – especially with the benefits of the Anniversary version – is long overdue.
