This will be a month of epic odysseys, of slaughter in the Dark Ages, of neon-noir street justice… Long story short, here are the most promising upcoming PS5 games in May 2025!
The cold months are behind us, and—sorry for going full cliché—the temperature is rising in the gaming industry, too. This year began with a bang, dropping one great game after another (How’s that Expedition 33 going? How many hours have you put into Monster Hunter: Wilds?). And now, another wave of promising titles is on the horizon.
So get those wishlists ready, say goodbye to your backlog-clearing dreams, and let’s dive into some of the most electrifying new PS5 games landing in May 2025. From Xbox Game Studios’ strategic surprise to a potential breakout hit from China, there’s a lot to get hyped about.
Upcoming PlayStation 5 games of May 2025
This month, we’ve rounded up eight titles that look like all kinds of fun. You’ve got the obvious heavyweights like the new DOOM and the new Elden Ring—alongside a few less obvious releases (PS VR’s not dead yet!). If you think there are some glaring omissions on our list of PS5 games coming in May 2025, feel free to scold us in the comments below. Enjoy the read!
Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition – 05/06
The great migration continues: another Xbox Game Studios title is making its way over to Sony’s camp. Sony fanboys, get ready for the time-tested strategy classic Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition to launch on PlayStation console!
This legendary RTS is perfect for sinking a couple… hundred hours into building armies and growing your civilization. Plus, a new add-on, The Three Kingdoms, will launch alongside the PS5 port, letting you dive into three new campaigns set in China.
The Midnight Walk – 05/08
Taking a night stroll can be risky, even in a virtual world. Especially when that world is a realm “of wonder and horror” from the creators of Lost in Random. The Midnight Walk is an upcoming dark fantasy adventure brought to life with stop-motion animation.
You’ll explore this eerie dimension as The Burnt One, teamed up with a lantern-like creature named Potboy, trying to survive against the surreal monsters lurking in the shadows. It looks bizarrely amazing and is an easy standout among the PS5 games coming out in May 2025. Oh, and here’s the cherry on top: it’ll also be playable with the PS VR2 headset.
The Precinct – 05/13
Fallen Tree Games invites you to Averno City. It’s 1983, baby, and crime is booming. Law-abiding citizens are trembling in fear while gangsters roam the streets. It’s up to Officer Nick Cordell Jr. (that’s you) to bring peace. By any means necessary.
The Precinct is a city sandbox packed with action, chases, and all kinds of thrills, wrapped up in a slick “neon-noir” vibe. Besides patrolling the streets, Cordell will be digging into the mystery of his father’s death. All things considered, it’d probably be illegal not to put this one on our list of new PS5 games in May 2025—and we’re not about to break that law!

DOOM: The Dark Ages – 05/15
The biggest, most obvious pick from the PS5 May 2025 games list is DOOM: The Dark Ages, sending slayers back to a time when the grass was greener and the blood redder. This time, id Software has shaken up the formula quite a bit.
Doom Slayer will be relying a lot more on parrying with a big shield and using melee attacks. If you loved the previous ultrafast style, you might make a wry face, because The Dark Ages looks a bit slower than DOOM Eternal. Slower, but definitely not worse. What’s been shown so far is sick and slick, and the blood is still gushing everywhere—truly spectacular stuff.
Zombie Army VR – 05/22
Zombies, zombies never change. But your perspective on them might. Return to the battlefield—this time rocking a different kind of helmet than most soldiers: the PS VR2. Owners of Sony’s latest virtual reality headset haven’t been spoiled with big releases, so Zombie Army VR is a tasty chunk of rotten meat.
Players get a huge arsenal of WWII weapons, including a sweet dual-wield option, to take down the decaying undead hordes. And of course, the iconic X-ray kill cam is back, along with co-op mode for anyone who wants to survive the apocalypse with friends. You’ll also level up your character, unlocking new tools of destruction along the way.
Deliver At All Costs – 05/22
If Death Stranding convinced you to try out a courier career, here’s another game that will become a smashing hit for you. Deliver At All Costs is set in 1959, and you play as Winston Green, a guy who’s always on time with his cargo. Even if it means smashing through a few buildings along the way.
The game promises a chaotic city sandbox that’s highly prone to destruction, mostly thanks to your trusty vehicle. You’ll be driving, flying with the help of balloons, and taking on the wildest assignments imaginable. But DAAC isn’t all about gameplay chaos—it apparently dives deep into madness with its story.
ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN – 05/29
As a standalone spin-off of one of the best and most popular games in recent years, Elden Ring: Nightreign definitely has big shoes to fill. But this one doesn’t follow the usual Soulsborne formula. Instead, it puts a roguelike twist on the gameplay.
After landing on a procedurally generated map, players will need to cooperate within a gradually shrinking area, battling enemies over two days. On the third one, it’s time to face off against one of the final bosses. Although this is quite a departure from the original, early hands-on impressions have been positive. The real test, of course, will begin at launch, but Nightreign is for sure one of the biggest PS5 games coming out in May 2025, at least when it comes to sheer hype.
Lost Soul Aside – 05/30
Rounding out the month is Lost Soul Aside, an action RPG from Chinese developer Ultizero Games. Inspired by titles like Final Fantasy and Devil May Cry, it blends fantasy and sci-fi with mind-blowingly explosive combat.
The protagonist, Kaser, is a warrior on a quest to save his sister (and the world, while he’s at it). Expect battles, puzzles, and huge bosses—a hero’s journey for our time. What we’ve seen so far looks promising, with slick dodges and parries that’ll make fans of character action lose their minds and produce one audible gasp after another.
End of the ride, everyone. We’ve covered our picks for the most promising upcoming PS5 games in May 2025 and arrived at the final stop. What will you be playing this month?
