Alan Wake II Review

Alan Wake II reviewed by Tristan Ogilvie on PC. Also available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

“Alan Wake II delivers one of the boldest and most brain-bending survival-horror storylines this side of Silent Hill 2, presents it with uniformly immaculate art direction and audio design, and reinvigorates the series’ signature light-based shooting as though it’s been locked and loaded with a fresh pack of Energizers. Even though its skill-upgrade systems seem a little superfluous and there were a few repeated cliches in Saga’s story that stuck in my craw, I nonetheless found both sides of this twisted tale to be endlessly fascinating, frequently fear-inducing, and consistently surprising. Alan Wake II is a superb survival-horror sequel that makes the cult-classic original seem like little more than a rough first draft by comparison.”

Just finished it was one of the most annoying boring games I’ve ever played. You spend 70 percent of the game looking at a detective board and listening to people talk by the end you don’t care what happens this games a 5 or 6 at best

This game deserved a better review. He literally just describes what happens.

U couldn't follow the narrative from "true detective" season 1 ? And you are allowed to write reviews for a living? It all makes sense now, sad really.

Lets be real this game lack of action, no interaction with the scene, mostly walking in empty scenes and whats with those glitches in the middle of the gameplay. Thats cheating. Why on earth you want to prank on us?? Are you crazy!?

Played this game and finished it. It's way too short and way too boring. It's pretty much a walking simulator. Don't buy.

If BG 3 did not come out this year, Wake 2 would have been GOTY.

Spider-Man fans are so salty that they will go to any game that won any award at the game awards and will proceed to cry about how Spider-Man is better 😂.

The no physical release for this game is such a backstab to consumers that I'll not play this game for a least this generation. Its a turnoff for me dog.

Video game graphics have reached an incredible level of photorealism! It took me a moment to discern what's real and what's CGI. Amazing!

Im a massive Remedy and survival horror fan and after first blush, I'd give this game a 6 or 7. It's okay.

No chapter select. No new game plus. No unlockables. Jump scares are overused. The story isn't even a quarter as fun to experience again once you beat it once and the gameplay isn't strong enough to enjoy by itself. The mind place is terrible too. And it was buggy at release.

The characters are great. It has tons of fan service. And it's unique and quirky.

But it's no GOTY.

Never played previous Alan wake games, just played and beat this one. Really fun, a bit annoyingly buggy towards the end (at least for me) but looove the psychological stuff, I’m a big sucker for it

IGN gave TotK a 10/10, a game that is only popular bc zoomers get to build (yay Minecraft!) yet give more worthy GOTY candidates like Remnant 2 or Alan Wake 2 a 9/10 bc they are not appealing to the casual gamers. That’s right, if you feel that TotK is a better game than Alan Wake 2, you are a casual gamer.
