The Don’t Starve: The Board Game announcement

According to an official press release, Don’t Starve: The Board Game will attempt to adapt everything that made the source material stand out as a survival game. Game mechanics will highlight player choice, dynamic combat, and open-world exploration in day-and-night conditions.

I just wanted some pork! Run!

Don’t Starve was a 2013 survival game developed by Bitworks and published by Klei Entertainment. It stood out from similar survival games thanks to its expressive, macabre art direction. It was successfully released on multiple PC, console, and mobile platforms, and received several massive updates throughout its lifespan.

The game puts 1-4 players into an unrelenting, randomly generated nightmare world of the Constant. It is a distant and ominous realm where magic and science intertwine in ways better left unspoken. Facing the elements, as well as a grim pantheon of baddies, players must work together to outsmart their enemies and stay alive.

Don’t Starve: The Board Game has some notable designers attached. Those names include Rafał Pieczyński, lead designer of Frostpunk: The Board Game, and narrative direction by Jakub Wiśniewski and Natanel Vo-Apfel.

Wiśniewski is most well known for his narrative work on Frostpunk: The Board Game as well as the This War of Mine board game. Whereas Vo-Apfel’s credits include Into The Outside: Prelude, a roll and write Choose Your Own Path experience about being trapped in the middle of the woods at night.

The Kickstarter campaign for Don’t Starve: The Board Game will go live sometime in Q3 of 2024. The campaign will fully utilize the creative potential of the source material as well as provide additional content through expansions, add-ons, and future retail releases. The Kickstarter page will be viewable to the public on March 27.
