Bloober Team’s upcoming Layers of Fear (not to be confused with, uh, Layers of Fear from 2016) has received a brand new 11-minute gameplay showcase. As you’d probably expect, it’s shaping up to be pretty spooky, with the game’s visuals and atmosphere looking particularly imposing thanks to Unreal Engine 5.
Launching in June, Layers of Fear is a strange beast. It’s a sort of remake of both Layers of Fear (the 2016 version) and Layers of Fear 2, and it also contains a brand new story starring protagonist The Writer, who will be exploring the new location of the Lighthouse. Still with us? If so, you’ll want to check out the new Layers of Fear gameplay showcase, which features 11 tense minutes of exploration.
The showcase sees the player exploring Layers of Fear‘s environments using the Lantern, an essential tool for solving puzzles and fending off “the threats of the Old Mansion”. While the first two Layers of Fear games were fairly light on gameplay, this new one will feature more puzzles and interactive elements than the series has up to now, so you’ll need to have your wits about you to get through the game.
Layers of Fear developer Bloober Team (which is also currently working on the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake) seems particularly proud of Layers of Fear‘s new visual tech, which features immersive elements like ray tracing, volumetric lighting, and HDR. Indeed, these elements seem to be working together pretty nicely to create some lovely visual atmosphere in the above gameplay walkthrough, so if you like Bloober’s particular brand of horror, this looks like it’ll be up your alley.
Bloober Team’s Layers of Fear launches in June 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Be sure to keep an eye on TechRaptor for more news on this game and all things Bloober Team.
