THQ Nordic and Haemimont Games are hard at work on Jagged Alliance 3, and now, they’ve announced that someone very special is involved with the project. Original Jagged Alliance creator Ian Currie has apparently been involved with the game “since day one”, so you don’t need to worry about its authenticity.
Jagged Alliance 3 was originally announced in September 2021. It’ll be the first numbered Jagged Alliance game since 2000’s Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business, and as THQ points out in a press release, it’s “a tightrope walk” to make sure the game appeals to both old-school fans and newcomers.
If you’re one of those old-school fans, you needn’t worry, it seems, as the devs have announced that Ian Currie, original concept creator and designer for Jagged Alliance, is closely involved with the project. Developer Haemimont Games describes him as not only a writer, but a “father figure” for the series as a whole. To accompany news of Currie’s involvement, THQ Nordic released the Jagged Alliance 3 Legacy trailer, which features both Currie and Haemimont discussing the franchise and what his involvement means for it.
In the video, Currie discusses his recipe for a true Jagged Alliance game. First, there’s got to be a strategy layer in which players make decisions “on a grand scale”. The second major point is “solid tactical gameplay”, and the third and fourth essential ingredients are characters and story. It sounds like Currie and Haemimont are focusing heavily on those elements, which should be reassuring to you if you’re a Jagged Alliance fan.
It’s well worth taking a look at the full Legacy trailer if you want a breakdown of the work Haemimont and Ian Currie are doing on Jagged Alliance 3. The game is due for launch this year, with THQ Nordic promising more information soon. In the meantime, you can wishlist it on Steam to stay abreast of all the latest developments.
