The Sims 4: Here’s What’s in Today’s Infant Update

The Sims 4 is finally releasing the babies and including an infant life stage. The free Infant Update is coming out today for the base game and will include a plethora of new actions, CAS customizations, and items to bring infants to life. Here’s what you have to look forward to in today’s big update.

Infant Update CAS Changes

Infants are fully customizable in CAS, from hair to clothes. They can also have birthmarks, which will fade as they age. Birthmarks as well as stretch marks and C-section scars are available for older Sims, as well. There are loads of options from dresses to footie pajamas to winter coats for your infants.

If you are creating your infant in CAS, there are 6 “traits” you can choose from to determine what behavior they will follow. This will also impact how they react to trying new foods, being away from their caretaker(s), and more.

  • Cautious
  • Wiggly
  • Sensitive
  • Calm
  • Sunny
  • Intense

Also in CAS, you can designate if your adult Sim is able to breastfeed. Select your Sim and turn on the “Can Produce Milk” option.

Gameplay Additions with The Infant Update

Once you are in game, there are a bunch of new options to interact with your family. You can have a “Science Baby” which takes out the pregnancy factor. This baby can be with someone you are romantic with, or just friends. It can be someone of the same sex or not.

Newborns have been updated to include a wider ranger of skin tones, pulling from the parents. They also have genetic eye color and update movements to feel more life like. Newborns will age up quicker, as well, allowing more time for the Infant stage in the age line.

Infants will have a moodlet for “attachments”. This will show how safe and cared for infant is. If their caretaker responds quickly to them when they cry, and their needs are met, they will have greater attachment.

If infants are not well cared for or ignored when they cry, they will have little to no attachment. Based on this, when they age up they will be rewarded one of the three following traits that will impact how they age through childhood into adulthood.

  • Happy Infant
  • Top Notch
  • Unhappy Infant

Children can interact with the infants. They can entertain, play peek-a-boo, and watch them. Infants can pet or play with pets. There is integration across previous expansion packs for the infant update.
