Are we getting a Painkiller remake?
The reveal trailer got seasoned fans of the franchise hyped, but some are wondering if it’s going to be a full Painkiller Remake? Not quite. The upcoming entry is going to be a modern reinterpretation of Painkiller that will keep the spirit of the earlier installments alive.
You may recognize some enemies, weapons and the gothic-horror vibe. The Tarot card system is also making a comeback. While Anshar Studios is drawing inspiration from previous games, this will be a brand-new installment featuring an original plot and new characters. Another noticeable change is the introduction of co-op play for up to three players.
If you’re looking for the closest thing to a Painkiller remake, Hell & Damnation is your best bet. It’s a modernized version of the original Painkiller released all the way back in 2004. It’s built on Unreal Engine 3 and features updated graphics, improved physics, and some gameplay tweaks. It was released on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. As for the digital version, it’s available on PC only.
