The world of Japanese manga is bizarre in many ways. For example, series that define the fandom of anime in the west, such as Hellsing, Soul Eater or Code Geass are incredibly obscure compared to heavyweights like One Piece or Dragon Ball. And while he may be a mere curiosity outside Japan, Doraemon is a household name!
Little surprise then that few here at Pocket Gamer knew how to approach Kairosoft’s Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story. But for those of you who have a more granular knowledge of manga will thrill at the idea of a bona fide global release of this sort of spin-off.
As for the gameplay, DDSS is very simple, you manage a Dorayaki (a kind of Japanese pancake confection) shop and have to run it Diner Dash-style while decorating, creating the different sweets and meeting various characters from the Doraemon series that make an appearance.
Sweet as candy
With its crunchy visuals and vibrant palette, it’s not hard to see the appeal of Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story. At the same time, for an upfront asking price, it may be that those of you who aren’t already aware of this adorable blue cat aren’t too eager to give it a go.
However, coming to us from Kairosoft, who are a company known for their simulation releases, it may well be worth giving DDSS a second glance even if you are a sceptic. And at the very least, you can be confident that a premium price means a (hopefully) premium release.
