Astral Takers is out now on iOS and Android, bringing multiversal action to iOS and Android

  • Astral Takers, Kemco’s latest JRPG release, is out now on iOS and Android
  • Play the summoner Revyse and bring powerful heroes from other worlds to fight with you
  • Predict enemy actions and swap out your party members on the fly in response

Kemco’s latest JRPG release Astral Takers is out now on iOS and Android, bringing more classic turn-based battles to the palm of your hand. In this familiar top-down adventure, you’ll be tasked with protecting the young girl Aurora and using powerful summoned heroes to help fight your battles.

Yes, that’s right, summoning! But a gacha this ain’t. Playing as Revyse, a young summoner-in-training, you’re tasked with defending the mysterious amnesiac girl Aurora. To do so, you’ll need to summon heroes from another world using Echostones, fighting alongside up to eight companions, and forming parties of four to conquer various dungeons.

The core concept behind the turn-based battles in Astral Takers is being able to predict your enemy’s actions. You can swap out your party members mid-battle and exploit affinity between certain members to take on even more powerful foes. While I can’t vouch for how different said heroes are, it’s certainly an interesting take.

Heroes from beyond

Kemco’s regular releases of top-down JRPGs are definitely exploiting a small but interested niche of players who want to see new releases like this on mobile. Certainly, Astral Takers looks to offer enough of an interesting twist on the standard formula to be worth a second look for fans of the JRPG genre such as it is.

I’m particularly interested in the hot-swap method of managing your party and being able to predict enemy actions. It sounds as if the usual chestnut of summoning, which we see so much in gacha releases, is being used to greater effect here as an actual in-battle mechanic.
