- Castle V Castle is an upcoming card-battling puzzler
- It’s been funded by indie orgs such as Outersloth
- And it’s set to hit mobile sometime later this year!
When it comes to card battlers simplicity is always better than complexity. Sure you sometimes have your Yu-Gi-Ohs and your Magic: The Gatherings where half the fun is in the Byzantine rulesets. But sometimes you just want to enjoy simple, straightforward and fast-paced rules that keep the game moving. Such is the case with the recently-announced Castle V Castle.
Visually the best way to describe Castle V Castle is Ikea instruction-chic. With its dead-simple black-and-white graphics, it still manages to communicate plenty of charm and humour in the brief glimpses we have from the trailer alone. Special mention to the walking sign which appears to declare “The End is Nigh” when you’re on the brink of defeat, only to reveal “Never Mind” on the other side if you make a comeback when it turns to leave.
Gameplay-wise this is one of those rare examples where we get everything we need to know visually. Castle V Castle is a card battler where your objective is simply to destroy your opponent’s castle while keeping yours intact. To do that you’ll wield cards which grow your castle, demolish your opponent’s, or pull out all manner of weird and crazy combos to keep the match moving.
Demolition man
That includes cards which do everything from reversing an attack to blocking a card and vice-versa. I’ve no doubt that when Castle V Castle hits mobile it’ll be an instant favourite of many players, and I found myself being quite intrigued just looking at the trailer alone.
With funding from indie group Outersloth and Slay the Spire alumni Casey Yano it’s clear there’s also a lot of enthusiasm in the developer space itself for Castle V Castle. So, be sure to check in because we’re sure to keep you posted on when this intriguing little release is set to hit mobile.
