Around the office water cooler here at Pocket Gamer towers, one of the most popular games has been the adorable feline collector Cats & Soup. And now fans can enjoy the series in a whole new way as Cats & Soup: Magic Recipe is set to hit iOS and Android on April 24th, with pre-registration now open.
Now, what’s Cats & Soup: Magic Recipe all about? Well, in essence, this is Cats & Soup with a bit of an upgrade. The graphics are now 2.5D and there promises to be even more cats to encounter and interact with. It also includes classic merging mechanics, minigames and decorating of your given home.
While the original Cats & Soup is more firmly planted in the tycoon genre, Cats & Soup: Magic Recipe seems intent on diverging away from that with the inclusion of more minigames and active merge mechanics. It’s something I’m sure will be welcome to those who are a bit sceptical of the cutesy, hands-off nature of the original.

It’s not exactly clear to me whether developer Hidea envisions Magic Recipe as a spin-off, as I understand it, or a more full-fledged sequel. It’s not hard to see how this is pushing the envelope for the series with greater graphics and additional content, but at the same time, the core gameplay looks to be just as focused on the collecting of adorable felines as the original.
Still, if you’re looking for a new take on it, and don’t want to leave your comfort zone, Cats & Soup: Magic Recipe promises plenty of fun and interesting gameplay changes and familiar mechanics.
