F2P TimeSplitters Rewind has a release date, and it’s launching real soon

The community-made project has been in the works for more than a decade, and it’s finally about to see the light of day.

Out of nowhere, the fan-made TimeSplitters Rewind has gotten a release date, with the game launching on November 23, 2025, completely free to play and available on PC.

The release comes close to 13 years since the title’s IP holder, Crytek UK, gave their blessing to allow fans to begin working on a HD trilogy of the series, with development starting in 2012.

What is TimeSplitters Rewind?

The game has evolved since work started on it more than a decade ago.

Back in 2012, the idea was for an HD remake of the original trilogy, and updates have been few and far between since then.

In fact, the last official development update came in March 2024, which you can watch below.

But from what we do know, instead of a straight remake, Rewind will combine maps, modes, challenges, characters, and weapons from across the franchise into one large-scale experience that includes both online multiplayer and an offline campaign.

Here’s everything planned for launch, with future updates and patches expected:

  • Up to 10-person multiplayer
  • 28+ classic and new maps
  • 50+ arcade leagues
  • 20 arcade game modes
  • 32 challenges
  • 91 playable characters
  • 41 weapons
  • 0 microtransactions

Why didn’t Crytek develop their own TimeSplitters game?

The TimeSplitters franchise came to a close back 2014, with the release of Future Perfect. But it wasn’t supposed to end as a trilogy, with a fourth installment originally planned, before falling victim of studio closures.

You might be aware that Crytek didn’t actually create any of the original three TimeSplitters. That distinction goes to the British developer Free Radical Design, which was also part-way through development of the fourth game when it went into administration in 2009.

During that process, Crytek bought the studio’s assets, acquiring the TimeSplitters IP in the process.

They then continued to work on the fourth game, before they too closed in 2014.

And in 2021, Free Radical Design surprisingly reformed under publisher Deep Silver, specifically to work on a series reboot titled TimeSplitters Next.

However, that was canned in December 2023, taking hopes of an official TimeSplitters 4 with it.

But that fan remake was still in the works, and it’s about to bear fruit next month.
