- Genshin Impact is set to start verifying US users’ ages
- Make sure to check in before July 2025 to get verified
- Those who aren’t able to could see their accounts deleted
Genshin Impact players in the United States will have to verify their age or face losing access to their account in MiHoYo’s popular open-world RPG. With the changes required by law, according to a recent announcement by MiHoYo, players will need to verify by July 18th 2025, to avoid consequences.
What kind of consequences are these? Well, for starters, players will see their accounts deleted, friends and chat records deleted, and won’t receive notifications to verify post-suspension since the account information will now be inaccessible by law.
Fortunately, as noted above, you’ve got a few months to actually verify your account. Although it’s not clear how age verification will actually take place and whether it’ll be more complex than a simple ‘pinkie promise’ approach, this is nonetheless a new step in what seems to be legal moves to limit the access of younger players to releases like Genshin Impact.
Gacha!
You probably don’t need a reminder of how the term gacha originated with gachapon machines, and much like their originator, it’s fair to say these are money-hungry releases. And while a clever player can spend very little, especially compared to the heyday of loot boxes.
While it’ll be a welcome change for many players and parents of younger gamers, it may prove to be a bit awkward for those not regularly jumping in. So if you think you might end up going on an extended hiatus in Genshin Impact, you’ll want to check in soon and get your age verified before the deadline is up.
