Weird Johnny Studio, the team behind Hero Tale, have unveiled their next project in the grimdark, bullet-heaven Last Mage. Putting you in the shoes of, well, the last mage, it sees you attempting to blast your way through your enemies in a roguelite adventure where magic is the only thing between you and a gruesome death.
In a world where magic has been outlawed and virtually all practitioners have been hunted down, you play as the Last Mage. Condemned to die in a dungeon, you’ve only got yourself and your array of magical powers to rely on in your fight for survival.
You’ll need to venture deeper and deeper into this darkest dungeon (pun intended) to try and destroy the beasts which plague it. Along the way you’ll need to upgrade your magical abilities by collecting ancient artifacts and carefully managing your mana to ensure you don’t run dry at the worst possible time.
Backpacking
All of this, of course, sounds par for the course when it comes to the bullet heaven genre. However, Last Mage adds an extra twist to its grimdark concept by also making your inventory a factor. Different backpacks you can unlock influence how much you can hold and where, meaning that you’ll need to carefully curate your equipment and fine-tune your loadout to make effective use of the space available.
