A name can be a funny thing. It can suggest a lot about a person, or a subject. And in the case of Punch Out: CCG Duel it can skirt worryingly close to a famous boxing sim featuring Iron Mike himself. Fortunately, that seems to be fixed as Punch Out has now become Fist Out!
But for those of you looking forward to this deckbuilding card battler from developer Goat Games, you won’t need to worry because it’s still slated for an April 9th release, where you’ll be able to select from a variety of fantasy races and synergise with over 300 cards.
Fist Out’s key selling point is the mixture of strategic RPG battles and in-depth character customisation. And with eight campaigns boasting 500 levels total, it certainly has plenty to explore even if you never touch the PvP mode. But if you do jump in then Fist Out promises quick, two-minute matches to challenge even the most dedicated of CCG fans.
Name’s the same
I’m glad to see Punch Out change the name, weirdly enough. I felt that it sort of undersold what looks like a genuinely well-done card battler because it almost made it seem as if it were trading on name recognition for something entirely different. And that might have ended up being a shame if it remained the focus.
And while the name Fist Out doesn’t necessarily scream fantasy to me, it certainly doesn’t detract from the variety of cards, graphics, various mix-and-match heroes and more that make it a genuinely interesting release to watch for.
