I feel as though I’ve seen innumerable twists in the football genre, but when it comes to Pup Champs, I think this is the first time I’ve seen adorable dogs playing it! And best of all, you won’t need to wait long if that idea grabs you, because Pup Champs is coming to iOS and Android on May 19th.
But, surprisingly enough a sports simulator this ain’t! In fact, Pup Champs is a puzzler, where your job is to navigate your team to the goal with passes and crosses to avoid being tackled by the other team. Designed to be accessible even for casual fans, you won’t even need to know the offside rule to win these matches.
Better yet, Pup Champs also comes bundled with its own underdog story (their words, not mine) as you play a retired soccer coach guiding your young charges to become amateur football champions!

Pup Champs will debut as free-to-start with 20 puzzles to start off new players. Personally speaking, I was surprised to see that this wasn’t a sports simulator! You’d expect that, given the fine pedigree of tournaments like the Puppy and Kitten Bowl, mixing pups with football was a given for the cuteness-obsessed world we live in.
But nonetheless, you don’t need to fret about this being all style and no substance as developer Afterburn has also worked on great releases like Railbound, Golf Peaks and Pulsar. So this cutesy chic puzzler has skill as well as style on its side.
