The original Gears of War is getting a fresh upgrade with 4K resolution and 120 FPS support… and it’s finally coming to PlayStation.
Hell froze over… a while ago, when Microsoft started bringing many of its flagship franchises to Sony’s hardware. Here’s another major step in that direction: Gears of War on PS5 is now a reality. Or rather, it will be this summer.
Gears of War: Reloaded is the very first game in the series, “faithfully remastered and natively optimized for more platforms than ever before.” The updated version features 4K resolution, up to 120 FPS (60 FPS in the campaign, 120 in multiplayer), and full cross-play and cross-progression—basically, cross-everything—which should help it keep a healthy player base.
The game is coming to Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and PlayStation 5.
Gears of War: Reloaded release date, price, Game Pass, and more
The remaster is being handled by The Coalition, with support from Sumo Interactive and Disbelief. Marcus Fenix and the Locust have never looked better, thanks to enhanced features like HDR, VRR, improved shadows, reflections, and a host of other graphical upgrades. Also, the campaign won’t have any loading screens throwing players off their stride.
The Gears of War: Reloaded release date has been set for August 26, 2025, and the game will be priced at $39.99 on all platforms. As a thank-you to longtime fans, Microsoft is also offering a free upgrade to owners of the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition—but only if the game was in your collection before the remaster’s reveal. Eligible players will receive a code for the new version.
Gears of War: Reloaded will also be available day one on Game Pass (PC and Ultimate), so if you’re planning to pick up the Lancer on August 26, check out the subscription options below.
