Rise of the Golden Idol’s first DLC arrives with The Sins of New Wells, coming soon to Netflix

  • Rise of the Golden Idol’s first DLC, The Sin of New Wells is coming March 4th
  • New crimes await as we step into the shoes of detective Roy Samson, a new transfer to the 9th district
  • But beware, because gruesome murders are not the worst thing he’s set to encounter

The Golden Idol series of point-and-click adventures has had an interesting trajectory. Going from historical intrigue in the original Case of the Golden Idol to (relatively) modern-day, hard-boiled detective crime thriller with Rise of the Golden Idol. And now those of you who’ve been hankering for more can enjoy Rise of the Golden Idol’s first DLC, arriving March 4th!

Rise of the Golden Idol is available on PC, but also on mobile exclusively via the Netflix Games catalogue. The Sins of New Wells sees detective Roy Samson transferred to the corrupt and crime-ridden 9th District. Alongside his new partner Cliff Savea, it’s up to Samson to solve a string of brutal murders that may have more than a bit of Lemurian magic about them.

The Golden Idol series uses its own distinctive puzzle-solving mechanics, where you need to link words and concepts together in different modes. By examining a scene you gain more evidence and can piece them together to form a theoretical series of events or reach other conclusions.

Into my mind palace

The Golden Idol series is one of those rare examples in the point-and-click genre that seems manifestly intent on pushing forward with new mechanics. I very much find their means of solving mysteries and gathering evidence to be quite interesting, so I’m excited to see what new crimes you’ll get to solve in this upcoming DLC.

At the same time the surprisingly dense lore of the Golden Idol series, I fear, may leave some players out in the cold at some point or another.

But either way, it’s a good feather for Netflix Games’ cap to have this fan-favourite point-and-click adventure on hand. Want to see what other top releases this service has? Why not check out our list of the top 10 best games on Netflix at the moment?
