When Rovio was bought by Sega a few years ago I think the question on everyone’s mind was, “What next?” And while we’ve had more than a few new mobile releases, the biggest one yet is right around the corner as battle royale take on the blue hedgehog Sonic Rumble is now confirmed to arrive on May 8th!
Yes, sooner rather than later you’ll be able to dive in and compete against friends and strangers alike in white-knuckle races to the end. Playing as iconic characters from the Sonic series, all with distinctive abilities, you’ll find yourself taking on a huge variety of stages with new and interesting goals.
As you might expect the push for pre-registration is also still well underway. But what’s in it for you? Well, a new character skin featuring Sonic from the third movie in the ongoing franchise is just the tip of the iceberg, with more rewards like Chaos stickers, buddies and in-game currency available too.
Let’s get ready to rumble
I’m cautiously optimistic about Sonic Rumble. After all, there are few if any mobile developers that have the experience Rovio boast of, and by all accounts this looks to be a real love letter to the franchise featuring dozens of fan-favourite characters.
At the same time, as I keep saying, there’s also the factor of there being so many releases like this on the market. Fall Guys and Stumble Guys to name but a few, and anything which sells itself to a specific niche of fans may always face the issue of trying to attract those unfamiliar with the Sonic franchise.
