No need to split hairs—that’s a nice success story. Split Fiction achieved a peak of nearly 200K concurrent players in less than 24 hours.
Fans of co-op are enjoying their little celebration as Split Fiction—the latest release from Hazelight, the studio behind It Takes Two and A Way Out—made its debut yesterday. The game has earned rave reviews from critics (a Metascore of 91) and players, who have flooded Steam with overwhelmingly positive feedback.
First impressions suggest the game feels like an endless well of creativity, with shifting perspectives and fresh ideas accompanying players at every step. A quick reminder, however, that it’s strictly co-op for two people—with no option to play solo.
The silver lining? Only one person needs to buy the game. Thanks to the Friend’s Pass, he or she can then invite the other player for online co-op.
Looking at the early stats, it seems gamers were eager for a new Hazelight experience: as you already know, Split Fiction’s Steam player count quickly surpassed the totals of the studio’s previous titles… combined.

The current peak concurrent players on Steam for Split Fiction stands at 197,434. This result was set three hours ago at the time of writing, so it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on the numbers over the weekend—it might just climb even higher.
For comparison, the studio’s previous release, the critically acclaimed It Takes Two (which won GOTY at The Game Awards 2021), peaked at 71,039 players—and it did so three months ago, years after its release. A Way Out, Hazelight’s 2018 debut, reached 8,582 concurrent players (that’s also from three months ago). So, Split Fiction has already left both in the dust.
