Trinity Trigger brings throwback JRPG action to mobile this month

  • Trinity Trigger is an unashamed love letter to the age of 90s JRPGs
  • Take on real-time battles, switch between three characters and wield eight different weapons
  • Uncover a story of the eternal war between Order and Chaos, and your character’s place in it

While many throwback JRPGs take you to the days of the earliest iterations of Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, there’s a special place in many players’ hearts for the 1990s era of this genre. And now, you’ll be able to take on developer Furyu’s own take on the genre as Trinity Trigger comes to mobile!

Originally releasing for consoles and PC back in 2022, Trinity Trigger will soon be available to mobile players and is slated for a May 30th release. In the world of Trinitia, you play as the young man Cyan, chosen to be a warrior of chaos. Accompanied by his friends Elise and Zantis, you’ll find out exactly what this means for his place in the grand battle between Order and Chaos.

Trinity Trigger is focused on the use of the titular ‘triggers’, small animals that transform into weapons. During battles, you’ll switch seamlessly between the three main characters, switching out their triggers as you go.

Pull my Devil Trigger (wrong game)

Mechanically and visually, Trinity Trigger owes a lot more to RPGs like Diablo than it does Final Fantasy, what with its fully 3D isometric perspective and real-time combat. At the same time, aesthetically, this is an unashamedly anime-style release.

It also mixes in the occasional animated cutscene, too, just to finish up the comparison! So if you’re in the mood to try a throwback to something a little more recent than the golden years of the JRPG genre, check out Trinity Trigger when it hits iOS on May 30th.

But if you need something to tide you over in the meantime, don’t fret. We’ve collated a massive top 25 list of the best RPGs on iOS and Android, collecting some of the best releases in the genre out there for players both old and new alike.
