Two Strikes set to arrive on mobile via Crunchyroll Game Vault later this year

Measure twice and cut once is a common phrase in carpentry, but it’s also applicable to sword fights (at least I’d assume so). And in Two Strikes, the upcoming 2D fighter from developer Retro Reactor, you’ll only get one chance to slice. Coming to mobile courtesy of Crunchyroll Game Vault, Two Strikes promises dark, bloody action for fans of manga and anime alike.

The term animesque is something thrown around a lot these days, mainly by me, but I’d say that Two Strikes firmly falls into the category of manga-like instead. Undeniably so, in fact, with its simple black and white characters, speed lines and other comic book style effects familiar to readers, this is like a manga come to life.

Two Strikes, as you might expect, also sells itself based on its difficulty. Think something like Hellish Quart, where you can only take a few solid hits before going down, and most of the action is based on feinting out your opponent and dodging oncoming blows. Simple to learn and easy to master, no?

Iku-zo

A glance at Two Strikes shows that, at least in my opinion, it’s a dramatic improvement from its predecessor One Strike which had somewhat of a confused aesthetic. Mixing crunchtacular pixels with lavish hand-drawn artwork can be a fine balancing act at best.

Regardless of my opinion, however, I think it’s undeniable that Crunchyroll has been on a roll (pun not intended) in recent months. Bringing cult classic releases like Corpse Party and The House in Fata Morgana to mobile, as well as other eastern-flavoured releases could very much be a recipe for success.

Certainly, you can’t fault the aesthetic considerations, and if it’s appearance you’re looking for why not check out Off The AppStore and Will’s study of card-battling roguelite Aestheta to see what this upcoming release has to offer?
