Having your own house when you’re only 18 may sound like a dream come true. Independence! Your own place! And all before you’re old enough to drink in the US! But in the case of Your House, you may find yourself wishing that this wasn’t the case because this seemingly cosy home has a decided dark side to it.
This text-based adventure sees you taking on the role of Debbie, a girl who finds herself expelled from school, betrayed by her best friend and struck by a car, all on her 18th birthday. With nothing else to lose, when she receives a mysterious key and a letter instructing her to go to the titular house, she decides to unravel the mystery of what exactly it’s all about.
But with dozens of puzzles awaiting you, and a mysterious figure watching you from the sidewalk, you’ll need to use all your ingenuity to ensure that Debbie can make it out alive.
The rental market can be murder
Now, admittedly I’m probably making Your House sound a bit more sinister than it really is. But there’s no denying a spooky undercurrent to this escape room-style puzzler as you explore the various nooks and crannies of your new home and with plenty of visuals to enjoy even with the text-based narration, it’s well worth a look.
Just be prepared to do a bit of furious tapping, as while Catherine had plenty of praise for Your House in her review, she did dock some points based on that. But if you’re willing to take things slow and examine each screen carefully, you may find the slow-burn pace worth it.
