When it comes to survival horror video game franchises there are likely a few that come to mind. One of those few is no doubt the Silent Hill series from Konami. The video game series has been around for decades and while we’ve seen several installments release into the market, there are fans who have been craving more. Unfortunately, it’s been years since we got a proper Silent Hill video game title and with the latest rumors, there is plenty of fans out there wondering just what may come out next with the IP.
In case you missed the latest rumors, the internet has been blowing up over the idea of Konami working on two video game installments for the Silent Hill franchise. One would reportedly be a soft reboot the series while the other would take the role of an adventure title much like the narrative gameplay you would find in the Telltale Games. Still, these are simply rumors at this point and nothing has been announced.
The last official announcement in regards to a Silent Hill video game was when Konami and Hideo Kojima split ways thus killing off Silent Hills. It came as a heartbreak for several fans though with the survival horror genre being highlighted lately with the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, there could be some new incentive to offer a similar experience with the Silent Hill franchise.
While not commenting on the rumors, Eurogamer did manage to get in touch with a spokesperson from Konami. The official comment left was that the company is actively listening to customer feedback and considering ways to provide the next title.
As of late, the franchise has become a shell of its former self. Fans have not found the charm of the franchise’s latest installments compared to the early years of the IP with the titles that were completed by Team Silent, the original in house team from Konami. Perhaps with the resurgence of the Resident Evil franchise, we could see similar treatment done with Silent Hill though only time will tell.
