A lot of Pokemon and even Pokemon Trainers are depicted much differently in the anime versus the manga. This is mostly due to the fact that the Pokemon anime is focused on a younger, more broad audience, while the Pokemon manga allows for a much more mature approach to the series.

However, in the manga, Bulbasaur is significantly stronger than in the anime, even when still in its starter form. It can easily control the battlefield with its vines, pay attention to enemy weak points, and block attacks perfectly.
In the anime, Bulbasaur is much more focused on being loyal to its trainer, Ash, and lacks tactical strength. It is only when Bulbasaur evolves in the anime that it becomes more powerful, whereas in Pokemon Adventures, it can already adapt perfectly on the battlefield and control the fight. Along with this, Ditto is also able to impersonate humans, blend into enemy territory, and easily confuse opponents in battle.
Ditto is much weaker in the anime, with most of its abilities just focusing on copying the Pokemon’s appearance. Often, though, Ditto struggles to copy its strength, making it a useless Pokemon for the most part.
