The Black Bulls are the main Magic Knight Squad that we follow throughout the run of the Black Clover story. That is because Asta, our main protagonist, is a part of them. The Black Bulls squad has gone through massive changes and exceptional growth. By the end of the story, the characters that stand as the very strongest of the group have shifted quite a bit, and a new era of the Black Bulls has begun as well.

Vanessa
Vanessa is one of the oldest members of the Black Bulls squad. She is known as a high-ranking witch, and it’s through her heritage that she stands out in power. Vanessa was born with Thread Magic. At the beginning of the series, that power seemed a lot simpler, allowing her to create and control threads in battle. However, during the Witch’s Forest arc, the true extent of her powers was unveiled.
Her threads aren’t just simple threads; they can control fate itself. After awakening her powers, the red cat of fate was born. Vanessa can rewrite reality and make it so that a fatal hit is actually missed. Her only disadvantage comes with the massive mana consumption that her ability requires. She would rank a lot higher if her stamina improved. For now, Vanessa stands as the new Vice Captain of the Black Bulls. She acquired this position after Yami’s retirement as Captain and Nacht’s promotion to the position of leader.

Luck
Luck has been, since his debut in Black Clover, quite an impressive member of the Black Bulls squad. For his magic attribute, Luck wields Lightning Magic. With the use of Lightning Magic, he is able to move at very high speed, making him one of the fastest characters in the series. On top of that, he is also able to launch powerful electric attacks to stun and fry his enemies at will.
His new transformation, Lightning Battle Fiend, debuted in Black Clover Season 2 Episode 3, and it makes him a monstrously powerful member of this group. A commoner with such high mana reserves is almost unheard of, but his powers made sense after Tabata revealed his true heritage as a noble in Perfect Grimoire, as he was confirmed to be the cousin of Charlotte.

Charmy
Charmy is a rare case in the world of Black Clover. She is one of the few characters in Yuki Tabata’s story to possess a rare and natural dual magic affinity. In that sense, she has in her possession both Cotton Magic and Food Magic. While these magic attributes don’t sound powerful, they’re actually quite versatile.
Her cotton magic allows her to summon cotton sheep allies to fight by her side. Her food magic is, however, where she truly shines. The Food magic attribute that she wields with immense proficiency comes thanks to her dwarf heritage. It allows her to summon a wolf that devours enemy spells and, in turn, absorbs their mana. Charmy is thus able to keep her mana supplies stocked to power herself and her teammates up. She is extremely versatile, and while she is powerful on her own, she is also an extremely valuable support member of the Black Bulls group.

Nacht
In Black Clover chapter 392, Yami was confirmed to have retired from his position. In his absence, a new captain of the Black Bulls has risen. At the end of the story, it was confirmed that the new captain of the Black Bulls was its now-former Vice Captain, Nacht Faust.
Nacht was first introduced as the Black Bull Vice Captain in episode 168. He proved himself worthy of his position through his strength. Nacht was born with Shadow Magic, which grants the power to slip in the dark and to sneak attack enemies. He also has four devils in his possession, whom he can fuse with, each granting him unique Devil Union forms. Nacht’s strength has especially been apparent in the Spade Kingdom raid arc, where he took on Supreme-Ranking Devils, Lilith and Naamah, and held his own.

Yami
The first Black Bull we were introduced to was Yami. He debuted during the Magic Knight entrance ceremony and was the one to scout and recruit Asta and Noelle to his crew when everyone else overlooked them. For quite some time, Yami acted as the Captain of the Black Bulls squad. He was not only a guiding figure for the others but also one of the strongest members. Yami’s strength was impeccable, and he was a Wizard King-level fighter, able to hold his own against the strongest of enemies and defend his allies.
What makes Yami as powerful as he is is his rare magic attribute known as Dark Magic. Dark Magic has the power to slice through space itself, making it a dangerous attribute. It is a power that’s also needed to open the gates of the Tree of Qilpoth. When coupled with his Hino-style swordsmanship, Yami was an unstoppable force. Sadly, it was revealed at the end of Black Clover that Yami had retired. He is no longer the Captain of the Black Bulls, but he remains one of the strongest members to have ever joined the group.
2
Noelle
Noelle Silva is quite easily the second strongest member of the Black Bulls. She comes from a royal family of the Clover Kingdom. At the beginning of the story, she lacked control over her magic and was rejected by her family, but eventually, she went on to prove everyone wrong and become the strongest Water Magic user to ever live.
In the Spade Kingdom Raid Arc, Noelle would acquire the Water Spirit Undin, but after losing her, she went on to forge a bond with the primordial god Leviathan. With Leviathan, Noelle unlocked her Valkyrie Dress Dragon form, which is also the strongest form that allowed her to destroy Paladin Acier and forge the path for Yuno and Asta to defeat Lucius.
Yuki Tabata went as far as to directly state that she is a character with the same potential as a Wizard King through her connection with Lumiel Silvamillion, the first Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom. Noelle was technically nerfed at the end of Black Clover with the loss of Leviathan, but it was also revealed that the primordial god would come back to help her if she ever needed it. Out of the remaining members of the Black Bulls, she is currently the strongest.
1
Asta
Out of all the members of the Black Bulls, it is quite clear that our protagonist, Asta, is the strongest. Asta had humble beginnings as an orphan raised by the church. He was born with no mana, and he only had his superior physical strength to carry him. Eventually, he went on to acquire the Five Clover Grimoire that would unlock Anti-Magic. With Anti-Magic, Asta became the nemesis of all magic users. With his powers, he is able to cancel out any mana-based abilities.
Asta showed us his might repeatedly over the course of Black Clover. Most impressively, his Devil Union form with Liebe made him powerful enough to take down the new God Mage Lucius, when aided by Yuno. At the end of Black Clover, Asta is now technically no longer a member of the Black Bulls, and that is because he has been promoted to an even greater position as the new 29th Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom.
