Sony’s most recent State of Play showcase wasn’t exactly lacking in big updates and announcements, and yet, for those who were hoping to see a bunch of major first-party stuff, it was a decided disappointment, even if Housemarque’s Saros did look promising.
In fact, the need for a PlayStation Showcase seems keener than ever now. Between games that Sony has officially announced for which new updates or trailers are long overdue (including those that are due out this year) and those that reports have strongly suggested are going to be unveiled soon, Sony clearly has no shortage of things to talk about.
So, does that mean the company is planning a PlayStation Showcase event? That’s certainly what we’re hoping for.

Gran turismo 8 hopefully
Death stranding2 isn't exclusive to Sony, stupid host
The host doesn't speak for sony😂,
we don't ! – pretty pointless 8 mins
How is Playstation going to give you a showcase when they have no games ready to show?
It wasn't disappointing people just expected more
Video game journalism is shocking these days. Yes it would be nice to know what everyone is working on, but at the same time, if these projects are a year or more away, you'd be putting up a video complaining about announcements for games that are too far out. It was a solid state of play. Current gen games no longer take 2 years to make. They take 5+ years.
The real issue is the whole "xbox has no games trope," that went around for awhile, if not for that, I doubt this issue would be getting this much attention. Unfortunately no one pushed back agains that. So now PS is getting the same treatment.
The gaming industry desperately need E3 back.. It kept Xbox and Playstation on there toes with competition and kept the consumers informed more often on what was coming
It is the only way we can get new trailers on Marvel's wolverine & any other upcoming ps exclusives. Not state of plays.
Well that sucked SONY no games showing no games again absolutely nothing
It was a good presentation you x bot simps
This sense of entitlement, studios owe us information, trailers, etc. is kids weird .Things will be revealed when they're ready to be, what more do you need?
? What is the issue? There is so many games out there, and so many big Playstation Titles. Everyone that has to manage a life and isn't payed for playing games, will have more than enough titles to keep busy anyway. With this year looking packed as well. Like "jam-packed" actually.
A new Digimon game was all I needed.
Y’all so cringe. This was the cherry on top, time to unsubscribe.
PS5 pro is great 👍
I was really hoping to see something God of War related, Wolverine and Venom but I didn't expect it.
I'm still waiting for a showcase that will make me wanna get a PS5, there's no games that make my jaw drop and go out instabuying.
I play on PC.
I came to this event to get release date for Lost Soul Aside, and confirmation of the Hell is Us leaked release date.
This show was a solid B+
-I didn't expect a Stellar Blade PC announcement so soon. In fact, I thought Shift Up would be self-publishing on PC, and they'd announce it on their own time.
-Awesome action game reveals with Tides of Annihilation and Metal Eden (which is a Reykon Games project I thought was cancelled last year, so it was even cooler to see it alive, looking slick and releasing real soon)
-Release dates for Lost Soul Aside, a really awesome Hell Is Us trailer, and a sick-looking Lies of P DLC.
-A few neat smaller games (Shinobi, Midnight Walk and the octopus game)
-also, Onimusha 2 release date, and a fun trailer for Way of the Sword.
We know what Sony's tentpole 2025 games are. Death Stranding 2 is getting a dedicated event, and I am almost sure Yotei will get a 20 min State of Play in spring that will be a deep dive into its systems. Also, Sony seems to be betting HARD on Borderlands 4, which is… a choice.
I was a bit surprised we didn't see Marathon, but showing off the "Eat the Rich" game a few weeks after Bloomberg's article about GAAS cancellations would have meant killing the game dead. They need to wait for the public to cool off, and probably do some rebrandinig before showing off F@irg@me$ again.
Any 1st party they'd show now would be 2026 and beyond. Why rush that? As you've said, we KNOW Guerilla is doing something Horizon-related; Bend and Blue Point are in between projects. This leaves Media Molecule, Firesprite, and Santa Monica (with supposedly 2 projects) as the question marks. Housemarque was another, but it showed up.
I dunno if they will do a major showcase. They probably could do a media blowout for like late 2026 and beyond, but…. why? Then they'd have nothing new to show for a few years. And it's not like they're struggling and need to "revitalize attention"- Sony's doing well, and everyone is expecting GTA6 release to give console sales an extra spike.
Spacing out 1st party reveals may annoy the hardcore, but it's absolutely the right business move.
