Helldivers 2 Adding a Super Earth Event Could Be a Double-Edged Sword

As Arrowhead Game Studios continues its work on Helldivers 2, the game is bound to receive updates that will help keep it relevant. Since its release, it has received many, including ones that add premium Warbonds for new weapons and narrative events whose conclusions are determined by players. Regarding the latter, the game may be getting its best one yet, as there is a possibility of one so huge that it will directly involve the governing planet that dictates everyone’s actions, Super Earth. But as great as that may sound, it opens up the question of whether it’s the right move for Arrowehead Game Studios to make.

On April 8, 2025, the X account of prominent Helldivers 2 leaker Iron_S1ghts shared a post regarding a planned Illuminate invasion on Super Earth. The leaker then confidently stated that Arrowhead Game Studios had begun testing the idea, meaning the event may happen in the future. Though there are no confirmations, it is still an exciting development for the game, as it means many different things could happen that will make it meet its grand expectations. However, it also means problems that the players, the game, and the developer could face, which may require the event to happen later rather than sooner until they’re figured out.

Helldivers 2’s Ideal New Faction Could Come from One Potential Crossover

If Arrowhead Game Studios decides to do a crossover with a particular popular franchise, it could result in a fourth faction for Helldivers 2.

How Helldivers 2 Would Benefit From Getting a Super Earth Invasion Event So Soon

If the leak about a Super Earth event for Helldivers 2 is true and takes place not too long from now, then there’s no doubt that it will generate a huge buzz within the game’s community. Given the scope of its potential effects, there will likely be a lot of benefits from having it come out early, such as:

  • The event being so large could attract the attention of those outside the community, leading to an increase in the number of active players and the game’s overall popularity.
  • Having an invasion take place so soon could mean new weapons and armor that can help deal with the invading force, which may make people play more to obtain valuable Super Credits or use real-world currency to purchase them.
  • It happening so soon and being so grand could open up more possibilities for where the game goes after it takes place, raising expectations and anticipation that can help keep the current community and perhaps ensure the game’s relevancy.

Again, there is still no guarantee that a Super Earth invasion event will happen, but if it does, Helldivers 2 has a lot to gain from it. Whether it takes place soon, in the far future, or at all will depend entirely on Arrowhead Game Studios, so people will have to wait and see what the developer decides.

Why There Are Issues With Releasing a Super Earth Invasion Event So Soon for Helldivers 2

If the next major event does turn out to involve the safety of Helldivers 2‘s Super Earth being threatened by an invading force, having it happen so soon will have positives, but it will also have some negative consequences for the game. Given that it is a monumental situation that some could see as a narrative conclusion to the game, having it happen early would make it feel that Arrowhead Game Studios had run out of ideas regarding where its creation should go. This will make fans question what comes next or if anything will happen afterward, which could lead to them losing interest in continuing to play if they aren’t answered. Also, such a huge event will pressure the developer to top it with future narratives, assuming there’s more beyond its conclusion, which will be very difficult considering the scope of what a Super Earth invasion can cover and do for the game.

Having an event where the units of the Illuminate invade Super Earth will no doubt lead to a lot of content and enjoyment from players, but it may not be something Helldivers 2 needs at this point early in its lifespan. Although Arrowhead Game Studios can prove that releasing it so soon can work, so long as the developer executes it right and does the right amount of preparation for what happens afterward.
