After years of set leaks and a very brief tease last year, Netflix’s The Witcher has finally shared a first proper look at Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt in action for the show’s final season, although reactions are pretty mixed already.
For a while, Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher was lauded as one of the best gaming adaptations out there (even though it’s really more of a book adaptation…), which was mostly down to Henry Cavill’s performance as Geralt. As the show went on, though, the quality started slipping fast, eventually leading to Cavill stepping down as Geralt amid reports of major creative differences.
Cavill leaving The Witcher was a big blow to the series and put it in a strange place of needing to find a brand-new lead for the final season. That lead was eventually revealed to be Liam Hemsworth, which caused a lot of fuss before we’d even seen any proper footage of him in action. Well, now we have, and it hasn’t exactly calmed things down.
Here’s Your First Proper Look At Liam Hemsworth As Geralt Of Rivia
Cavill Fans Don’t Seem Convinced
Following a very brief tease last year that simply showed Hemsworth as Geralt without any actual acting, Netflix’s official The Witcher Twitter account just shared the very first footage of Hemsworth as Geralt. The clip shows Geralt, clad in his strange new motorcycle jacket, going up against a Wraith.
We get to hear a little bit of what Hemsworth’s Geralt is going to sound like, and it’s definitely very similar to Cavill’s gravelly performance. To be completely fair to Hemsworth, he does look quite good in the action scenes, but it doesn’t quite stop the uncanny feeling of seeing someone else as Geralt.
It’s not even Liam’s fault fr but this Witcher just has zero aura compared to Henry.
As you can expect, the responses so far aren’t exactly positive, with many fans instantly writing Hemsworth off simply because he’s not Cavill. Others say that Hemsworth is a good actor, but that he can’t fill Cavill’s shoes. On a positive note, there are a few comments saying it’s a decent first look and that they’ll give Hemsworth a shot, but they do seem to be the minority so far.
