We played Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition in handheld mode on Switch 2 and came away very disappointed with the game’s performance, especially when in the open areas like Limgrave. Frame rate drops were significant when turning the camera whilst exploring outside of the tutorial area, and this, combined with a confusing button layout on Switch 2, made combat confusing and exploration fairly dispiriting. We weren’t allowed to record gameplay at the booth, probably due to this fact, but you can hear our thoughts on Elden Ring Switch 2 handheld gameplay in this video. Elden Ring Tarnished Edition releases in 2025, so hopefully there’s time for Bandai Namco to work on its performance.

I mean even the PS5 had frame drops if things moved to fast. It rarely happened but it did happen. So this doesnβt surprise me.
hopefully they don't update every other version of Elden ring worse just to cater to the switch 2 engine like what happened with Monster Hunter Rise
2:10 He says he normally plays on the PlayStation 5 instead of a PC. Can we really trust him?
star wars ourlaws just give me some hope !
FromSoft make great games. FromSoft can't optimize or port for absolute shit, however. Remember the PC versions of the other Souls' games? The Switch version of Dark Souls? Hell, bloodborne on PS4 dipped below 30fps pretty often.
They shouldn't get a pass on this. It's a great game, but don't buy it on the Switch 2 honestly.
Did he say Elden Ring 2 π
So, is this Star Wars outlaws βbad performanceβ, or actual BAD PERFORMANCE. Because we all know Outlaws is fine if not amazing!
Typical IGN hahahahaha
The guy mostly complaints about the placement of the A – confirm button.
Bro hasn't touched a Nintendo console in 30 years.
Will be adding this channel to the block list. I hate BIASED REVIEWERS.
I have seen great many positive responses from the fans for this game. We fans might be in for a treat for something big here.
Turns out they were exaggerating ππ»
Iβll have to wait for a switch 5 to play it in in 30fps
The irony of it being called the tarnished edition is master level poetry….
I still have to play Elden ring on the PS4 version on my ps5 because the ps5 versions stuttering and frame drops are so bad it gives me motion sickness. Itβs been 3 years btw.
Thank you for your honest opinion.
Dark Souls Remastered only bust became playable on Switch 2. Nothing new
If you wanna play this sort of game, steam deck has you
Is it only in handheld, or docked as well? I almost never use handheld.
Well all i can do, is feel bad for console users complaining about not achieving 60fps on the PS5 meanwhile i am raytracing on max settings, and if the game wasn't locked to 60fps, i could push further on my RTX 4080super, because even with all this, its still sits aroun -50+% GPU usage only because its frame locked by the game engine
Just buy it, peasants.
i'm sure it will have patches
3:18 MAKIN MY WAY DOWNTOWN WALKING FAST, FACES PASS AND I'M HOMEBOUND
They canβt optimize when the screen is that cheap. Nintendo done fβd up will show more and more over time. Why do you think they are focusing on making switch 1 games again and not switch 2 games?
man if they say it's bad it must be horrendous
so the 2 in switch 2 stands for the fps? π
"Elden Ring on Switch 2 Is a Disaster in Handheld Mode"
"PS5 Footage"
Grow some balls IGN…
turn up the music I can almost hear him
ooougghh…, the loathsome slideshow
Steam deck stays winning
Load times sucked on ps4 slim.
Well hey there Ian!
Runs like ass on every console edition
Reminder to everyone: this game on steam deck had to be PERSONALLY optimized for the system to run at 720p 30fps. This game certainly is better off than the initial release of the game on deck, and also performs very well on other systems. This is not a hardware issue, its Fromsoft being horrible at optimizing.
Come on guys – itβs still in development. Quite pooping on it until itβs released.
"But it's portable"…ππ
The Switch 2 doesn't support HDR in handheld mode. It's fake HDR, the LCD doesn't have any dimming zones. It's a common marketing tactic in low end TVs and a lot of PC monitors. It'll support a HDR signal, but you aren't getting a HDR experience.
If I remember correctly, the game was optimised by Steam deck team for the Steam deck, resulting in a more stable performance compared to pc. Knowing this, it's not surprising that switch 2 version doesn't run good.
Let this be writ on thy meagre grave
Big L Nintendo
Well, yeah, You don't Buy a Switch as main system to play third party games so… They've never had good enough hardware for third party games since the Wii and the Switch 2, again, is not the exception, they get low-end hardware for their consoles and they work out their first party games so they run decently well there, and Even then the hardware for some of their games is not good enough; and of course, third party ones are just not good enough and not worth the money, paying full price to get the low end experience of a Game is just a no go.
Nintendo up again trying so hard to get their new console to run a game that came out few years ago
Switch 2 has a PS4 power and it's still bad… Like ugh, what more do you want?! And how the hell did games worked, played and look AMAZING without a problem on PS4 years ago?! Just port the game like you were making it on PS4!!!!
This device was so half assed
Nintendo switch 2 =π₯π₯π₯π₯π
bro thinks he cant beat grafted scion with a level 1 character because of the controls lol
Consoles should start showing their limitations at the end of their lives, not at the beginning π
Why are people even surprised
That button mapping issue was definitely a personal problem. More so it was easy to test all of this before fighting the Scion but hey
Think Nintendo is rushing fromsoft on this
