Resident Evil Requiem Hands-On Preview (With Gameplay!)

Resident Evil Requiem has a new, terrifying foe that more than lives up to the mantle of a Resident Evil stalker.

My short playtime was such a small sample size of Resident Evil Requiem that it’s very hard at this early stage to know where the ninth entry in the mainline series will fit in comparison to its predecessors. And that’s assuming that the scenario in this demo will even feature in the full game at all – there’s the possibility of this being a bespoke demo, something Capcom has prior experience in with Resident Evil 7’s “Beginning Hour” demo. But even if this is just a tonal example, it’s very hard not to be excited for what horrors Resident Evil Requiem has in store for us when this unstoppable beast arrives early next year.

In this first look at Resident Evil Requiem gameplay, we get to see the new stalker in action, relentlessly pursuing Grace Ashcroft from both first-person and third-person Resident Evil gameplay.

I think horror may be the one genre where indie games are getting stale and AAA is more interesting. I swear anymore, every other indie horror game is some menial labor simulator with 2, maybe 3 jumpscares, and that's "horror."

Looking at you night shift

Just needed some clarifications here,he mentioned “classic” in the video about the first person mode in RE series..I played most of the games but I don’t remember if there’s any first person option in the first and second. Or was I wrong, there’s a first person mode in those first two games the whole time ?

This doesn't look like a resident evil game

This stalker reminds me of something that would be in scary stories to tell In the dark book..

I miss the old resident evil. The zombie survival horror that started the franchise, with well written deep stories you uncover as the game plunges further and further into more in depth levels. To me these 1st person man/woman holding a lighter or torch and hiding from things isn't resident evil. Sorry but being a fan who grew up with 1-5 and loves the remakes, it just isn't the same and doesn't interest me.

Another franchise I loved killed by thoughtless idiots listening to Tweeters 🤦‍♂️looks worse than 7. Just cancel it now and save yourselves the trouble. Ain't no… way I'm buying this crap. Do they even know what horror is anymore bc it clearly looks like they don't. None of this is scary it's garbage

the fact that little nightmares are more capable to inflict damage than this poor girl is quite disapponting and not realistic

Definitely playing in both 1st and 3rd person. Just have to decide what to pick for my first playthrough

She looks like she's running in a dream

I hate stalkers, I hate running, I hate not ever being able to relax and look around. So, I hate it.

I love that you can choose the play in 3rd person

There'll be a lot of screaming and diapers will go out of stock.

As good as this looks, I wish they picked a single perspective instead of trying to make everyone happy. Re8’s third person mode felt like an after thought and re9 was likely intended to be played in first person.

This new tall woman will be harder to mod into a sexy dress that we can spank with a fly swatter… but not impossible

Favatar

You're essentially getting two games with the 1st and 3rd person options, even though enemies, story, characters etc are all the same the perspective shift alone makes it seem different.

I think the footstep sound effects might need some work. Specifically the wood floors. They should creak at least a little. They could sound more like wood too.

I can say this looks great but some things could've made it more better. She is super clean, the lighter stays on when she trips, and I think it could be more terror. The stalker seems limited or now but the crawl down makes me hope they make her more versatile. It screams RE7 vibes (Spider mom, chase scene,) with RE8 boss vibe (Lady D). Day one buy for sure.

I already dislike the fact that there is a fricking " pursuer" mechanic in the new game. One of the reasons I do not like the resident evil 2 remake.

I prefer the third person RE games over the first person ones. I also think REmake 2 is the scariest game so far in the series and REmake 4 has the best gameplay.

I have a feeling it won’t be the only enemy that chases us
