Mega Pokémon that boost Aron
Pokemon Encounter icon

Trainers who plan to participate should be prepared with a Mega Pokémon to maximise candy gains per Pokémon caught. Here’s everything you need to know! If you want further information about Spotlight Hours, check out our comprehensive guide.

The following Pokémon will grant you extra bonuses when catching Aron if they are Mega-evolved.

Mega Catch Bonus

While a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy are granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it.

Is it worth evolving Aron?

PVE

Aggron is popular among the Pokémon GO community for being one of the top Raid battle party recommendations in the earlier days of the game. Sadly ever since this Pokémon’s debut, and even with the addition of new moves, Aggron is NOT an optimal counter in PvE battles. Keep it benched. ‼

⚔ Raids

The addition of the powerful Meteor Beam didn’t help Aggron cement a position for itself as a viable Rock-type Raid attacker. As a Steel type, it is also outclassed. In a nutshell, Aggron is a Pokémon that should be kept away from Raid battles.

🛡 Gyms

A good DEF stat doesn’t supplement the fact that Aggron has two double weaknesses (Fighting and Ground), both of which are common Gym attackers.

💎 The best PvE moves for Aggron are: Smack Down and Meteor Beam (Rock) Metal Sound and Heavy Slam (Steel)

PVP

🔵 Great League

Aggron’s diverse moveset and bulk gives it decent play in the Great League, being able to beat giants like Shadow Giratina Altered, Regidrago, Galarian Moltres, Mandibuzz, Charjabug, Turtonator, Blastoise, Galarian Corsola, Cradily, and Golisopod. However, even with such an impressive showing, it loses more often than it wins, making it an underwhelming pick overall. Besides, Bastiodon does the Rock and Steel type job better anyday.

🟡 Ultra League

Aggron is not only better off in the Ultra League, it is also decent in this meta. Top threats like Cresselia, Giratina Altered, Guzzlord, Regidrago, Feraligatr, Drifblim, Tentacruel, Clefable, Cradily, Galarian Moltres, all fall to Aggron’s attacks, making it a formidable force to be reckoned with. That said, Galarian Stunfisk performs a similar role but better. More often than not, Aggron is not bad per se but it’s quite outclassed.

🟣 Master League

Aggron just doesn’t cut it in the Master League.

💎 The best PvP moves for Aggron are Dragon Tail, Rock Tomb and Thunder.
