The Verso’s Drafts area in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a strange place filled with plenty of color and candy. This includes a speaking gingerbread door that only opens if you give it a birthday cake.
It doesn’t actually say that since it’s a very cryptic door. However, after it asks you to bring a special ingredient, Verso reveals that it wants cake. So, that’s what you must do if you want to open the door and see what’s inside. This is how you do that.
How To Get The Birthday Cake
There isn’t a full birthday cake lying around this area. However, there are three individual pieces of cake that together can form a single birthday cake.
First Piece Of Cake Location
One piece of cake can be obtained from the Gestral Baths area, near the top of the region. You know you’re in the right place when you see giant, red Esquies.
Next to one of the pools, you can find a lifeguard with a ring around its neck. He will ask, “Is it you?” Tell him yes. He will then blame you for all the Esquies being a bright hue.
It’s unclear why it is your fault, but you need to fix it. So, go up to three of the six esquies and interact with them to turn them blue. It doesn’t matter which specific ones you change, as long as three are red and the other three are blue.
Once that is the case, return to the Lifeguard to get a slice of cake.
Second Piece Of Cake Location
To get the second piece of cake, go down to the pool that contains the seesaws, then talk to the Gestrals in the pool right next to it. Tell them “I’m in.”
Then, they tell you a story about one of their toy boats going missing, before pointing you in the direction of a nearby waterfall where the boat went down.
Run off the edge of the waterfall to fall into the pool below. Then, head through the waterfall to find the boat. It doesn’t actually look like a boat. It’s a pink glowing thing that you need to pick up.
Once you’ve acquired it, return to the Gestrals and hand it over.
Third Piece Of Cake Location
For the final piece of cake, you need to find the carousel. It’s on the opposite side from where you entered the area. So, head all the way down the hill. Eventually, you will see a big grey archway. Go through it to find the carousel.
When you enter this area, look to the right of the carousel to find a small Gestral with Esquie’s head coming out of its shoulder. The kid is known as the Very Very Cool Gestral.
Talk with the child, and say, “You’re right, standing in line is boring.” Then, the conversation continues until you choose which of your characters you want to ride on the carousel.
To get the cake, you need to have everyone ride it, but you can only do one at a time. So, keep talking to the creature and selecting a different person to ride each time.
After everyone has had a go, you will be rewarded with a piece of cake.

How To Open The Gingerbread Door With The Birthday Cake
Once you have the pieces of cake, you don’t actually have to do anything to assemble the birthday cake. It happens automatically.
So, with the birthday cake in your possession, you can open the door. It is one level down from the Gestral Baths area, amid the forest.
Interact with the door, and offer it the birthday cake. This will let you enter a new area that includes some enemies and a secret boss.
