It’s actually somewhat tough to write about Venusaur. When Gigantamax Venusaur debuted alongside Charizard and Blastoise in October 2024, just like when they debuted 30 years ago in their respective Gen 1 games, Venusaur has always been somewhat of a second choice when it comes to stats. While Charizard represents the damage dealer, and Blastoise represents the tank of the three, the OG Vine Whip & Solar Beam Pokémon is somewhere in the middle: second in ATK stats among the three, and second in tankiness as well.
What boils down to where Venusaur stands vs. Charizard and Blastoise in the meta, and in the future of the Max content in Pokémon GO, boils down to its dual-typing of Grass/Poison. It is actually these two typings that help Venusaur still staying somewhat relevant 18 months later.

Gigantamax Venusaur’s stats are all sub-200, depicting exactly the problem it faces when puts in comparison with the other Kanto starters: it is not the top at any facet. But that doesn’t mean Venusaur can’t get the job done, it just doesn’t have to be the #1 at it.
Gigantamax Venusaur as an Attacker: Still the #2 Grass Attacker
Gigantamax Venusaur deals Grass-type damage through G-Max Vine Lash, and enjoys a ~29% extra damage multiplier with its Gigantamax form. This helps put it ahead of all other currently available Dynamax Pokémon in the game, but it loses out to Gigantamax Rillaboom, who surpasses Venusaur by a considerable 21% gap in damage. That is a significant gap, pushing Venusaur down to the #2 spot for the current meta Grass damage dealer in Max content.
Looking ahead, future Dynamax Grass damage dealing threats that will eventually surpass Venusaur would include two other names: Kartana (323 ATK), and Shaymin Sky Forme (261 ATK). However, since one of them is a legendary and the other is a mythical Pokémon, it feels safe to say that Venusaur will continue to hold the #2 Grass attacker spot securely for now, and in the near term future.

Gigantamax Venusaur as a Tank: Decent, but Not Futureproof Enough
Gigantamax Venusaur’s Grass/Poison dual-typing gives it resistances to Grass (x2), Electric, Fairy, Fighting, and Water, and with access to the 0.5s fast move with Vine Whip, it does have its use as a tank and Max Meter generator in the team.
In the current meta, Venusaur sits strongly as #7 tank against Grass-type attacks due to its double resistance against it. It is also a very decent tank against Fairy-type attacks, ranking at the #9 spot. For the rest, it sits among the top #20 tanks. The future, however, can be quite tough on Venusaur as a tank. It will fall far down the list for most of the typings that it resists, except for Grass where it will drop down to #22 spot once all Pokémon have been released into Max content. Not too bad, but not the top either.

Verdict
Despite not being the best attacker, nor the best tank, Gigantamax Venusaur fits perfectly in the role of a niche Pokémon. It is a top-tier Grass damage dealer that is not easy to get outclassed, and a decent tank against five different typings, with relative futureproof against Grass damage due to its double resistance.
Similar to Charizard and Blastoise, if you are a new trainer to the content, it might be worthwhile to do a couple of runs for Gigantamax Venusaur. Not only register your Pokédex entry, but most importantly, get yourself a decent attacker against Rock, Water and Ground types, as well as a decent tank against Grass, Electric, Fairy, Fighting and Water. But if you already had a decent Gigantamax Venusaur, it might be more worthwhile to invest your Max Particles on the other Kanto Starters or Gengar.
