A24’s Elden Ring film now has a budget of $200 million

Back in May of last year it was officially announced that FromSoftware’s magnum opus Elden Ring would be getting a film adaptation in partnership with the indie-focused distributor A24. Set to premiere in cinemas on the 3rd of March 2028, the project was previously stated as being A24’s most expensive film to date with a budget of over $100 million. According to new reports however, this initial figure was understated, with Elden Ring’s adaptation now costing “nearly $200 Million.”

As revealed by TheHollywoodReporter (paywalled) and shared by the publication Insider-Gaming, A24’s Elden Ring film adaptation is now said to be costing the company “nearly $200 million” – representing almost double that of the previously reported budget from back in April.

Even with its initial reported budget of $100 million, Elden Ring would have been A24’s most expensive film to date, with the previous record going to Marty Supreme (which cost $70 million).

Of course, Elden Ring’s world is unique and expansive, likely requiring a great deal of visual effects across the board. Additionally, the film is said to be shot in IMAX, which in and of itself adds to the total cost of production.

While certainly a risk on the part of A24, Elden Ring as a game has been a massive success, selling in excess of 35 million copies while achieving one of the highest aggregate scores of all time at a 96. Whether its success as a video game will translate to success in theatres, we will have to wait and see.
